Build No. 1: Part 6

Fitting the grip safety was ‘easier’ than I was afraid and cutting the bottom barrel lugs worked well by taking it very slowly, after a frightful ‘bump’ in the process.

Build No. 1: Part 5

Now that I have the frame, I can really get going on this build. It’s time to work the slide-to-frame fit. The Caspian slide came out as a good match for the JEM frame. The frame’s slide rail was just a bit oversized and allowed material for narrowing it to fit.

Needless to say, fitting parts is tricky and is a little of why great gunsmiths are great. I’m finding that I have at least two things I need to improve about my parts fitting.

My Caspian slide arrived which allowed me to start fitting the barrel, or at least the barrel hood. Fitting the top barrel lugs and cutting the bottom barrel lugs will have to wait for the frame.

The first objective of the research I did into selecting parts for this build was to find a solid base for the pistol: the slide, frame, and barrel.
